Kids stabbing themselves with screwdrivers and cutting themselves. We also had tips for a healthy brain on Wednesday's show. We can't forget about prizes with the Nearly Impossible Trivia Question.
Nearly Impossible Trivia
Denise Roussel was the first to correctly answer today's question. She won an arm wrap for her Ipod and a $10 gift certificate from Wal-Mart.
Question: Last year, what resolution did the majority of women wish their mate would make for the New Year?
Answer: To be more romantic.
The Ways Kids Injure Themselves
What's the strangest way your kid has ever injured themselves? I'm sure it's nothing compared to this girl.
A Farmington, Minnesota family enjoyed a Christmas miracle this year. Their two-year-old daughter is home and relatively unharmed after she stabbed herself in the eye with a screwdriver!
Her father said she was feeling restless during a church service and wandered into a room where children have adult supervision. She found a screwdriver, and another adult later saw it sticking out of her left eye.
An x-ray showed the screwdriver penetrated her eye socket, five centimeters into her brain. Doctors took four hours to remove it.
And then there was this story.
In Hilton Head, South Carolina, two teenage girls who tried to consecrate their new found friendship by becoming "blood sisters" ended up in the emergency room when, in their drunken state, they miscalculated how deeply to cut themselves.
The two girls, ages 16 and 17, were seen covered in blood running down a street in the afternoon. The cutting went down in one of the girl's homes. When the blood stated pouring, the pair panicked and ran outside, calling 911 in the process. They were taken by ambulance to Hilton Head Regional Medical Center, where their parents joined them.
The worst thing that I did to myself was slash my fingers with a box knife while helping my dad. I still have the large scars to prove it. Oh, and my brother threw a drum cymbal like a frisbee and clocked me in the forehead. I have a small scar and a dent in my skull to prove that one.
Health For Your Brain in the New Year
Heal your brain with these six brain boosters. We all know 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week does the body good. Add these steps to your 30-minute routine, and Michael F. Roizen, MD, says you'll keep your brain young.
- Eat Indian. Each week, eat six curry dishes or six teaspoons of dark mustard, or a combination of the two, and you may lower your Alzheimer's risk.
- Teach. You're more likely to retain information if you explain it to someone else.
- Go Tomatoes. Take in 10 tablespoons of tomato sauce (with olive oil and no added sugar). Do this every week and your brain will thank you.
- Laugh. Laughter really is good medicine. It's good enough to improve memory, in fact.
- Drink Coffee. More help on the Alzheimer's front. No cream or sugar allowed.
- Go Fish. Make it fish with low toxins, three to four times per week, or take molecularly distilled fish oil each day.
