Roasting The Mayor, Reasons To Stay Single, And Cheaters
11-01-2007

Mayor Jack Kellogg has less than two months before he is no longer the mayor and some "friends" have planned a special evening for him. We also learned out the cheat proof a relationship (something to do with stalking) and we learned it may just pay to stay single.

Roasting the Mayor
Dale Osborn and Deb Price stopped by to talk about a big event coming up two weeks from today. For $30 you can get a meal and watch as special guests pay tribute to long time Marion Mayor Jack Kellogg - by making fun of him.

Deb is the Mayor's "favorite" daughter and says she has had a hard time narrowing down the millions of stories she has about her father.

After years of working with him, Dale says he had plenty of stories, some of which may have caused re-election troubles. On the air today, Dale commented on one of the Mayor's hygiene issues.

Curious? There's only one way to find out all the juicy stories. Buy a ticket. There are only a few left and they can be purchased at City Hall, the Chamber of Commerce, and Carroll's Jewelers.

Reasons To Stay Single
You don't have to be married to be happy, despite researchers that have stated otherwise. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the number of Americans 18 and older who have never married reached 55 million last year, up from about 45 million 10 years earlier.

Studies cited by USA Today offer these four reasons to stay single:

  1. Marriage reduces social ties -- Singles are not only much more connected to their family and friends, but also they are more likely to help their parents in their old age than their married siblings, according to an unpublished study by researchers at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and Boston College.
  2. Singles are just as happy -- When a couple marries, there is a measurable boost in their happiness, but it doesn't last. Over time, their happiness returns to pre-marriage levels, according to a study by Michigan State University of 70,000 households in Great Britain and Germany. Singles who never married reported the highest level of well-being.
  3. No significant economic benefit -- Across all social classes, women are less likely than in the past to see marriage as an economic benefit, according to New York University researchers. The result is that women are raising their standards and giving a whole new meaning to the word "picky."
  4. Pressure to marry doesn't hurt self-esteem -- When family and friends pressure women to marry, it does not hurt their self-image now as it once did in the past, according to a study from Penn State University and Duke University.

Cheat Proof Your Relationship
(Cosmopolitan) Here are tips for the ladies from Cosmopolitan magazine on warding off infidelity:

  • Participate in your guy's personal passion, if he invites you to, and show him what makes you tick. No real connection can exist if it's a one-way street.
  • Be open to new ideas in bed or to simply having more sex. That doesn't mean agreeing to anything and everything he wants. But sex represents intimacy for men, so keep in mind how much it matters to him.
  • Talk at least 10 minutes a day if you have to be apart. Sharing little day to day details creates the fabric of your life together, And no, text messages can't accomplish the same thing as hearing each other's voices can.
  • Suggest getting together with his female friend or coworker if he seems to mention her a lot. The women in question will be less likely to move in on your man if she knows and likes you.
  • Accompany him to evening activities, whether business or social, as much as possible, unless he's claiming a boys' night out. In general, when alcohol is flowing, tempting situations are more likely to crop up.

Weather Kid
Today's Weather Kid was Alexis Holmes. She went trick-or-treating. She got lots of candy. She does not know what she dressed up as. I think we may need to talk to her mother.
