Saturday in the Park, Top Sitcoms, Misunderstandings
08-28-2007

Saturday in the Park returns this weekend and we had guests giving us the lowdown on all the fun. We also had the top ten sitcoms of the '90's, why men and women fail to understand each other, and info on the meaning of dreams.

Saturday in the Park
The annual festival is this weekend. Saturday in the Park is on its 11th year and as always is bigger than ever before.

Jeanie Brewer is the Recreation Director for the City of Marion and this year's festival chair. She stopped by the studio this morning with Todd. He is the Ohio President for Verizon, which is a new, big sponsor of Saturday in the Park.

Jeanie says there will be 16 inflatable rides for kids to enjoy this year. It costs just one dollar per ride, or just $5 for a wrist band that lets you ride all day long.

In addition to the rides, there is lots of food, entertainment all day, a car show, and so much more. Many of the activities are completely free.

Men and Women Speak Different Languages
No wonder men and women can't communicate. They speak different languages:

  • Doohickey (doo-hick-ee): Female: Any part under a car's hood. Male: The strap fastener on a woman's bra.
  • Vulnerable (vul-ne-ra-bel) adj. Female: Fully opening up one's self emotionally to another. Male: Playing football without a cup.

  • Commitment (ko-mit-ment) n. Female: A desire to get married and raise a family. Male: Not trying to pick up other women while out with one's girlfriend.
  • Wants and needs (wontz and nedz) n. Female: The delicate balance of emotional, physical and psychological longing one seeks to have fulfilled in a relationship. Male: Food, sex and beer.
  • Thingy (thing-ee) n. Female: Any part under a car's hood. Male: The strapfastener on a woman's bra.
  • Entertainment (en-ter-tayn-ment) n. Female: A good movie, concert, play or book. Male: Anything with one ball, two folds, or three stooges.
  • Flatulence (flach-u-lens) n. Female: An embarrassing by product of digestion. Male: An endless source of entertainment, self-expression and male bonding.
  • Remote control (ri-moht kon-trohl) n. Female: A device for changing from one TV channel to another. Male: A device for scanning through all 75 channels every 2 1/2 minutes.
  • Taste (tayst) v. Female: Something you do frequently to whatever you're cooking, to make sure it's good. Male: Something you must do to anything you think has gone bad, prior to tossing it out.

What Do Your Dreams Mean
According to Dr. Naomi Quenck, a clinical psychologist:

  • Falling: Means you have a feeling that you're not meeting standards set by yourself or others, and with one wrong step, you'll fall below expectations. This kind of dream is experienced by 75% of people and they usually dream it when they are not feeling well.
  • Being Nude: This dream stems from people worrying what other people think if they saw them as they really are.
  • Being Chased: This dream usually pertains to being in a hostile environment, where we must look over our shoulders. It's experienced by 80% of people.
  • Taking an Exam: This one stems from worries that we'll come up short when people evaluate our competence. You'll most likely have this dream when you're up for a raise or if you're dating someone new.
  • Flying: This is the only common dream to involve a positive feeling... the feeling that the world is wondrous and at your command.
