Satisfying Jobs, Tasty Ribs, Tanning Tips 06-12-2007
We had returning and new guests Tuesday talking about Festival on the Green, tips on getting a better "bottle" tan, and information on jobs that satisfy and some that don't. We also shared a list of things dads always say and some things he'll never say.
Wings, Chicken, Ribs ... Festival on the Green Janet and Dave returned to the show this morning to talk about the annual fest that kicks off at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. They brought along newcomer Angela.
Angela is in charge of the food...and calming down Janet. Janet thought it would be fun to sell ribs on Saturday. Fun until she was "volunteered" to cook the ribs, that is. So if you're wondering where Janet is on Saturday, she'll be slowing cooking 300 lbs of ribs in her special homemade sauce and multiple locations.
Maybe they can get her husband a police escort as he speeds between cooking locations with pans of ribs.
Janet's an old hand at cooking though, saying she's been in that business since she was 16. In fact, she currently operates her own business, You're Kitchen Cooks. She'll come to your house and cook you dinner. You can call her at 361-0822 to learn more.
In addition to the ribs, the festival has more entertainment that ever before. Five bands take the stage on Thursday and Friday and then all day long on Saturday. Want more info on the bands? Tune into Local Mic with Jester on Wednesday from 8-9 p.m.

Tips On Getting A Better Bottle Tan Leslie Baumann, M.D. says that tanning in the sun, or at tanning salons, just isn't safe. But, she says modern technology has come to our rescue in the form of hundreds of sunless tanning products.
Baumann offers the following tips, saying you can get a golden glow without streaking and being concerned about your health.
- The active ingredient in self-tanners, called DHA (dihydroxyacetone), reacts with amino acids in your topmost layer of skin. Consequently, the evenness of your tan depends on the evenness of your skin. Always start with an exfoliating scrub to slough off the dead skin cells that can cause a spotty tan and darker orange-brown patches.
- However, be sure to avoid scrubs that include petrolatum or mineral oil, as they are occlusive and can prevent DHA from working properly.
- Apply less self-tanner to the knees, elbows, palms, and feet - DHA will cause more darkening in places where your skin is thicker.
- Look for self-tanners with antioxidants, which tend to produce a more natural-looking tan than those without them.
- Don't use moisturizer for two hours after applying self-tanner, as it can interfere with the pigmentation process.
Many of my patients ask me if there's any difference between self-tanning creams and the spray-on tans that are offered at many spas. When it comes to the active ingredient involved, the answer is no - all self-tanning products use DHA.
However, the FDA has cautioned consumers against unwanted exposure to DHA, including inhaling it or being exposed to it through the eyes, mouth, or mucous membranes.
Obviously, you'll need to be more careful about avoiding unwanted ingestion of DHA in a spray-tanning booth than you are while applying a cream at home.
